Primary 2

As part of our commitment to home school partnership,   we have designed this leaflet to provide you with information about your child’s work this term and how you can support their learning at home.

We will revise addition and subtraction facts to 10.

We will extend the number sequence to 100 and look at;

  • the number before and after
  • 1 or 2 more and less
  • counting in 1s and 10s

We will introduce place value and look at numbers 10 more and less.

We will start to count in 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s

We will be making and using graphs, tables and charts.

We will revise sounds, especially blends and introduce au/aw, ew, ow (that says oa), igh

We will begin Nelson Spelling which involves worksheets and a text book.  The spelling patterns will also be practised at home.

We will continue with ‘Oxford Reading Tree’ and increase their vocabulary.

They will continue to talk about their news and to write it.  We will develop their story writing techniques, building up sentence structure and story ideas, using VCOP.

They will revise small case letters ready for joining skills and capitals.

We will begin to use letter names rather than sounds.

We will also look at alphabetical order and nouns.

They will listen to stories, songs and to instructions to gain information.

They will revise how to start up and shut down the computer, use a mouse and keyboard, be able to print and save work, and, create a picture using simple software. They will enter text and correct it and use the computer for finding information.

They will learn simple French songs, revise greetings, numbers and learn vocabulary for some types of weather.

They will learn about how Harvest is celebrated in different religions and cultures.

They will learn about the 8 wellbeing indicators, SHANARRI.

They are going to explore sounds around us, developing listening skills, and, learn songs for harvest assembly.

They are going to look at patterns and colours.  They will design their own picture for enterprise.

They will develop their special awareness skills

The topic this term will be ‘Vidlin, Shetland’

We will be looking at: where Vidlin / Voe and Shetland are on a map.  We will look at how different people help us at home, in school and in the community.

How can you help us?

I would appreciate photographs of you and your child for discussion and display.  These can be emailed to the school.

How can you help your child?

To observe and talk about people who help us.

They will have little pieces of research to do, finding out about different people and places, and, asking questions which you may have to help with.

Personal Target(s)

I would appreciate it if you would discuss with your child what they would like to learn or improve this term, either at home or at school.  It can then be noted in their home learning diary in the Target section.  I will then add it to their term target sheet in school.
